You’re Training Your Brain

The Weekly Journal

It’s important to live every day with a practice of gratitude. Taking a moment as often as possible to pause for appreciation keeps me grounded. Oftentimes I feel like a really outwardly positive person with negative thoughts. I’ll catch myself complaining about problems I’m lucky to have.

Of course these are things in life we’d like to change or have different in some way or another, and letting out a frustrated rant or even a wish for change can seem like relief in the moment. But it’s actually the exact thing that’s keeping satisfaction away.

When you choose to see the negatives, you’re training your brain what to look for. It keeps you wired to…

Always see the downside. It takes work and a lot of practice to see the good in bad situations. Once you do it enough, the habit becomes automatic. Eventually you don’t need to wait for something negative to notice the positive. Every day regular moments become beautiful when they’re viewed as gifts.

This is something I’ve been actively working on for years. I’m much better now than I was a couple years ago. And as long as I’m at least a little bit better than I was yesterday, I know that I’m growing and moving toward a happier, more fulfilled life.

Don’t have a good day. Have a great day.
